Thornbury Swing Band was formed in 2008 by Richard Gulliver, a local saxophone and clarinet player. Sadly, Richard passed away in early 2010 but the band proudly plays on in his memory, now under the musical direction of Chris White-Horne.
None of our band members receives any income for performing. Money raised by the band is donated to good causes in the local area. We only retain a small amount of income to buy music so we can extend the range of our performance.

I am sure you are all still shattered from last night. You all worked so hard to make the evening go with a “Swing’. I had many comments last night and also this morning about how fantastic you all are and that they enjoyed the evening. Please can you personally thank all of your band for me, for providing everyone with a truly memorable evening. Let’s hope we can do it all again!

More about the band…
The band plays swing jazz instrumental and vocal numbers from the 1930s right up to modern times. The full, classic big band has a line up of saxophones, trombones, trumpets, and male and female vocalists. All supported by a rhythm section of bass, guitar, keyboard and drums.
After a recent successful debut gig, we’re delighted to announce the arrival of the ‘TSB – Small Band’. With a rhythm section of drums, bass, guitar, and keys, singer, and horn & sax section – it’s ideal for smaller venues or parties where the full band would be just too big.
Whatever the size of the band, our aim is to have a good time playing great music and, in doing so, entertain and delight our audiences. We are, of course!, available for booking and perform at several events throughout the year including concerts, weddings and parties.

Making Music for Good Causes
Since 2008, we have donated and help raise several thousand pounds for charities such as Brain Tumour Support, Bristol Children’s Hospital, the Lydia Biddlecombe Star Tribute Fund, Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary and many other local good causes. Because Thornbury Swing Band is not-for-profit, charities organising their own events can typically raise around £1000 from an event with us. If you would be interested in the band supporting your charity, please take a look at our Fundraising with a Swing leaflet below.
There’s more information about how we can support you on the ‘Your Event‘ page. We’d be delighted to speak to you if you have any questions or plans. You can get in touch via our contact page here.
